Usage and Safety Guidelines

Heat Warning...

This device uses a propane heat source, which can be dangerous if not handled correctly. Caution: All stainless steel components become extremely hot. Do not touch. For proper operation, use the device outdoors to ensure sufficient oxygen flow. Allow the device to cool before storage or transport. You may use water to speed up the cooling process.

Safety Gear

Always wear safety glasses, gloves, and appropriate respirators when using the device. If device backfire . 1. Luck of oxygen , 2. Overheated                           Use at your own risk.

Torch Installation

When installing the torch, slide it far enough to reach the hexagonal screw. Position the flame toward the bottom of the shell, then tighten it securely with the butterfly screw.

Preheating

Preheat the device to around 400-450°F. Use the temperature gauge, or perform a test to ensure accuracy. Condensation may appear in the silicon cup during the initial heating process, but this will stop once the device reaches the proper temperature. TO AVOID BACKFIRE DO NOT HEAT OVER 550°F .

Usage Instructions

After preheating, it only takes a few seconds between doses. The copper cap weighs 2+ grams and can treat one or two brood boxes every 5-6 days, for a total of 3-5 treatments, depending on the level of infestation. For 25 hives, the process, including preparation, takes about half an hour.

Temperature Control

Keep the thermometer reading between 400-450°F. If the outdoor temperature drops, increase the device temperature to 430-480°F. As long as the temperature remains within this range, it should operate safely.

Optional Adjustments

Once familiar with the device, you can drill a 3/8-inch hole in the back of the bottom board (and cork it when not in use) to administer treatments from behind the hive. Placing a damp cloth at the front entrance can help as well. Also you can adjust the torch handle left or right horizontal for easy access the beehives on the ground  by loosing the handle butterfly.

Monitoring Results

To monitor treatment effectiveness, use at least one hive with a screened bottom board. Cut a piece of Styrofoam or corrugated plastic ( check board ) to fit the screen, place it under the screen firmly tight  , and check it 24 hours after treatment.
